Silver Laced Wyandottes

Silver Laced Wyandotte chickens are docile, beautiful, and good egg layers. They are known for their silvery-white feathers with black lacing and red combs. 

Appearance 

  • Silvery-white feathers with black lacing

  • Black tail

  • Red rose comb, earlobes, and wattles

  • Broad, deep, and well-rounded breast

  • Clean legs and close-fitting feathers

Size 

  • Roosters weigh about 8.5 lbs, hens weigh about 6.5 lbs

  • Largefowl 

Egg production

  • Lay medium to large brown eggs 

  • Hens lay about 3–4 eggs per week, up to 1 egg per day in spring and fall 

  • Hens may lay better in the winter than other breeds 

Temperament Docile and good with families and Can go broody and make good mothers. 

Other characteristics 

  • Hardy and can do well in cold climates

  • Good foragers

  • Can work well in confinement or free range

  • Excellent choice for backyard flocks and urban settings

History 

  • Originated in New York State

  • Named after the Native American tribe of Wendat

  • Accepted into the American Standard of Perfection in 1883
